School Build Coordinator - Matt is responsible for running our school build program, which includes construction of more than 20 schools. He receives a modest monthly salary that breaks down to roughly $1400 per school. We would be lost without him.
Construction Team Leads - Mike, Chris and Paul are the guys that work hand in hand with the local skilled staff and lead the volunteer teams through each phase of construction. They each receive modest monthly stipends that break down to $350 per school.
Translator - Berlyne is our local translator. She helps keep the communication flowing between the community, director of the school and the volunteer teams. She is on a monthly stipend that averages $280 per school. She is worth every penny.
Haitian Carpenter - For each school build, we have two paid local carpenters. They are an essential part of the team and a way for the international staff to pass earthquake and hurricane resistant building techniques on to the local community.
Haitian Masons - For each school build, we have two paid local masons. They are an essential part of the team and a way for the international staff to pass earthquake and hurricane resistant building techniques on to the local community.
Volunteers - They are an unstoppable force that traverse the globe on their own dime and work endless hours in less than perfect conditions to help those in need. We provide food and basic accommodations in exchange for their time and energy.
Tap-Tap Transportation - We spend about $800 per school on local transportation in the form of tap-taps, or pick-up trucks. We have our trusty drivers to move people, materials and tools all over Leogane.
Students' desks - What good is a school if the kids don't have a place to sit and work? We make all the furniture for the schools we build. Sponsor a desk, or two!

Cement Mixer - The cement mixer costs us $50 per day to use. It saves us a great deal of time and helps to produce a consistent mix to ensure stability.
Fuel - We need diesel to run the cement mixer.

Tar - We use tar to seal the roof and help keep out the elements. $72.50 buys enough tar to seal the roof of an entire school.
Paint - We let each school director choose the paint colors for the school. They usually choose colors based on the uniforms their students wear. We paint the school, inside and out, along with the furniture we build.

Paint trays - $25 covers all of the paint trays needed for the entire school.
Tools - we have a good stockpile of tools that we purchased for our entire school build program. But tools break, and blades, bits and other parts need to be replaced. We spend roughly $500 per school on the tools needed to get the job done.
Generator - We run a generator so we can have electricity on the construction site for our power tools. It costs us $250 per school build to have a generator.
Fuel - The generator can't run without gas. We spend about $240 per school build on fuel. Help cover part or all of our fuel costs.
Communications - Keeping our team in touch is essential. Viola, one of Haiti's cellular carriers, donated a set of phones. We just have to cover the cost of the minutes.
Office Supplies - as with any organization, we need pencils, pens, clipboards, note pads, ink and printer paper too!
Storage - We spend a modest amount on space to store tools and materials and to have prefabrication space. We put $225 from every school build toward this cost.
Contingency - Our mothers always told us to plan for the unexpected, so that is what we are doing. Working in a developing country, we realize that there are temporary cost increases and fluctuations in materials, so we like to plan ahead.
Everyone likes a party, especially those that have never had one before. Once the school is done, we throw a big party for the children, teachers, community members and volunteers to celebrate the opening of the school. The total cost comes to $500.
