Getting the Most Out of Your Wedding Registry: Item Descriptions

oncomputer01.jpgWhen it comes to writing descriptions for your wedding registry items, it pays off to make each one engaging, creative, and personal. By doing this, your guests will actually contribute more than if you keep everything basic, generic, or limited. They will also feel more of a connection to your registry, too. In this week's Registry 101 feature, learn about four easy ways you can bank on an effective wedding registry this year through creative descriptions.

1. Be descriptive about your activity/registry items and make your guests feel as though they are part of the experience.
Here's an example:

A Romantic Dinner at Per Se, New York City - For our first "date night" experience as a married couple, we'll head to Thomas Keller's restaurant Per Se in the Time Warner Center on Columbus Circle. The restaurant is world-renowned for its culinary art and exquisite service. We'll get to indulge in a nine-course chef's tasting menu while taking in extraordinary views of Central Park. This will be a meal to remember for the rest of our lives.

Meanwhile, to really make people feel like they were personally connected to your registry, take pictures at every place or with every item you registered for and send a copy of the relevant photo along with your "thank you."

2. Register for everyone's taste. Here are some ideas: A night at the opera, cappuccino maker, date nights, gourmet knife set, a spa getaway, KitchenAid mixer, snorkeling/hiking/fishing tour, etc. People will choose what resonates with their own sensibility.

3. Don't hold back on adding humor and some creativity to your registry. This will make the gift-giving experience fun for all of your guests.

4. Use interesting and colorful pictures to showcase your gift items. The more inviting an image appears to your guests, the more likely it will persuade them to purchase the gift for you.

Hopefully, by following these simple steps, you'll be well on your way to creating an amazing registry page that resonates with your friends and family.
