Creative Ways to Host a Cash Registry Wedding Shower

Posted by Missy Mecum on May 6, 2013

So you're now a maid of honor and looking forward to throwing your best friend the ultimate wedding shower. But let's say that the bride-to-be has filled her wedding registry with some incredible items like cooking classes, season tickets to the local baseball team, a gorgeous bed from Restoration Hardware, a gym membership, and artwork from local artists.

Unfortunately, contributions to these items and activities are not easily wrapped as a gift, like more traditional household items (e.g. bakeware, bath towels, and kitchen accessories). How exactly do you host a memorable shower that isn't just a group of ladies watching the bride-to-be open twenty envelopes? Well, the answer lies in how you craft the festivities of the day.

Make it a Game

One of the most exciting things you can do for the shower is to make the gift-giving time a guessing game. Start by getting each guest to purchase a gift from the bride's SimpleRegistry wedding page online. Next, have each guest wrap up a small clue pertaining to the gift they purchased for the bride. This can really be a lot of fun!

Encourage your guests to get creative with their clues as well. For instance, some clue suggestions might be an onion for a gift of cooking classes, a baseball for season tickets, earplugs for a contribution towards a bed (this is especially great if her future spouse snores!), a sweatband for a gym membership, and even a paintbrush for a gift of local art.

The Big Reveal

Meanwhile, each guest will also need to bring a greeting card with a description of the gift they purchased. The guests can either purchase a gift notification card from SimpleRegisty to be sent to them or write the gift in their own greeting card.

Next, the bride opens the wrapped "clue" and the group attempts to guess the gift from the clue. Finally, the bride opens the card and reveals the gift. A prize can even be given to the guest that correctly guesses the most gifts. This will ensure that the gift-giving time will be fun for everyone attending!

I personally love hosting wedding showers and collecting great ideas for them on Pinterest and from my friends. While I've enjoyed all of my friends' bridal showers and have seen so many cute ideas, it's this particular gift guessing game that stood out most among them all.
