When my husband and I got engaged, we were in an extreme long distance relationship — I was in Germany and he was in the United States. We knew that we would both be moving to New York City after two years apart, and decided to get married there as soon as we were back together. As a result, our wedding planning process was hectic, confusing, and accomplished via e-mail, Skype, and sporadic trips across the Atlantic. Creating a registry with SimpleRegistry was one of the easiest - and best - decisions we made during that time.

SimpleRegistry allowed us to create general categories like "Decor" and "Dining Room Set" without having to commit to a specific style or product which took a lot of stress off my shoulders. We also all know that once you own your own home something always needs to be fixed within the first few months. SimpleRegistry allowed us to also create less tangible categories like "Hire a Contractor" where family and friends could contribute to the expense of us hiring a contractor when the time came, which for us was about two weeks after moving in!

We researched many other registry sites out there, and found that SimpleRegistry really offered unparalleled versatility in the ways we could customize our registry. Some sites let you register for a honeymoon, and some sites let you create a page that lists all of the stores where you are registered. SimpleRegistry was the only one that let us customize our honeymoon fund AND add on extras like the charity donations, and anything else we could have imagined wanting as newlyweds. Plus, the transactional fee was also the lowest (and most transparently described) that we found.

While preparing our registry, we visited a few different stores to physically touch things we might want.  We had a lot of fun wandering (I waddled) around stores.  I was able to get a good idea of what I liked and didn't like.  When I really liked something, especially when I hadn't thought of it before our trip to the store, like our awesome bath toys, I was able to scan it right into the registry using my phone. Later our friends and family who could come to our baby shower were able to either return to the same store or shop around if they liked.  Those that lived too far away to come to our shower were able to contribute monetarily via the website and know that they were really helping us out with baby items we really wanted.  I also really enjoyed seeing what people were inspired to buy. I often put down general desires rather than specific items, i.e. "unique baby clothes" or "fun toys."  A friend got us a darling organic cotton duck love that we had never seen before and my son sleeps with it every night and naptime.

I happened to find SimpleRegistry on a wedding blog and I'm so thankful I did! It has worked out great for us because we live four hours apart right now but we can both add items to our registry and then just have the other one check it out online. I love how the site emails you notifications when gifts are purchased, it's like Christmas morning! And thank you notes will be a breeze since the website managing it all for us. With all the crazy wedding planning that has been going on, it's been nice to have a simple and easy way to manage our registry.

We chose SimpleRegistry because it allowed us the flexibility to craft a registry we were proud of. We try our best to tread lightly on the planet, and everyone knows babies require a lot of stuff. Being able to buy gently used gear was a top priority. SimpleRegistry let us customize our registry so that our generous friends and family could help us feather our nest with quality used items, including a high chair, an infant bath tub, a swing, a nursing pillow, baby bottle supplies and more. In addition, our loved ones were able to share the cost of expensive items. It was a relief to be able to accommodate many different budgets and a wide variety of goods on a single registry.

While planning a wedding many brides stress over their hairstyle, seating charts, and how to manage drunk relatives. For me and my (now) husband, Travis, our single biggest stress was the registry. Sure, going into a store to scan beautiful things with a registry wand is great fun, but for us it felt like nothing but logistics and head scratching. Our (glorious) predicament was that four and a half months after getting married we were selling all of our belongings, moving out of our apartment and embarking on an 18 month journey. Registering for gifts meant finding a way to store them for nearly two years. We considered just asking for cash, but out of respect for my older-fashioned, southern family, that was out.

SimpleRegistry allowed our guests to contribute increments of money towards individual aspects of the trip (such as meals, accommodations, excursions, and souvenirs). Thanks to SimpleRegistry, we were also able to create an aesthetically beautiful itinerary for Costa Rica. Each section of the trip had a description and picture, which helped us organize our adventure. The entire process was extremely easy!

While other companies hit the mark on one or two of these components, SimpleRegistry really stood out to me and definitely hit all of my hopes. I loved being able to setup a personal page where all of our guests could go to our page and see a photo of us with a little letter to them. I received so many compliments from other guests that loved the fact that SimpleRegistry allowed me to put a little story behind each item and why we needed or wanted it.

"Congratulations! Where are you registered?" When you tell people you are pregnant, this question soon follows. For many months, I had no answer. Several close friends with toddlers had promised to give me their baby items, but what exactly they would be handing down, I had no idea. Furthermore, as a new mom, I was totally confused by the cornucopia of baby paraphernalia in stores and magazines. The prospect of clearly identifying what I needed, how many, and which style/size/color/theme was too overwhelming. I was cowed into inaction, and answered my friends and family with a lame, "Um, I don't know. I think we'll figure it out soon..."

We chose SimpleRegistry because we wanted to create a honeymoon fund, as well as provide our guests the option for "traditional" gifts. Since we've been together for over 10 years (yep - high school sweethearts!), we decided the best thing to register for was an experience we would never forget. As we say, blenders last a few years (the way we use them), but memories of a private beach sunset last a lifetime. We chose SimpleRegistry because they had the lowest transactional fees, and we had the option to adjust how fees were paid. We also loved the ease of adding anything our little hearts desired from all over the web, and customizing our experience on our own website for free.

On June 24, 2011, the New York State Senate passed the Marriage Equality Bill, allowing us to finally legalize our nearly 24-year relationship. Wow! We were swept up in the moment and started planning our wedding even before the end of the 30-day waiting period. After all these years, we felt we had waited long enough, and planned our wedding for August 2nd. We knew we couldn't have a typical store registry, because after living together all these years, we already had Grandma's china and silver and pretty much everything else we needed. We started to wonder what other long-term couples do when all of a sudden they decide to marry after years of living together.

When my husband asked me to marry him, on the top of Table Rock Mountain, he told me that he wanted to spend the rest of his life adventuring with me. So it made sense that when we were planning our wedding that we weren't going to spend time scanning plates in some box store. But what we did want was a unique way to share with our family and friends the kinds of things we hoped to build our life around. SimpleRegistry offered us that opportunity. It helped us articulate what that vision for our life would be and the type of stuff that would be more than just material, like photography from our favorite wildlife photographer and pottery from the famous Seagrove Potters.

SimpleRegistry was a splendid direction. We put a few actual items on the registry like new sheets and a backyard compositor. But mostly, we had honeymoon experiences listed. It was fantastic to have friends and family gift us unforgettable honeymoon experiences. It was extra special to think about our loved ones while we stayed at bed and breakfasts, went out on biking excursions, or enjoyed a little murder mystery theatre at a winery.

We could choose items from small mom and pop shops all around the country without the pressure of finding the perfect item right away. All we had to do was paste a link to the item we wanted on our SimpleRegistry account. From there, SimpleRegistry would immediately find the image associated with the gift. If the gift was over a certain amount, we divided the final total of the gift into portions so friends and family could contribute without breaking the bank.

From the very beginning, we decided to plan our wedding digitally. No physical invitations were sent. We created a private Facebook event and invited all of the individuals that we wished to attend. Those not on Facebook were contacted via e-mail or telephone. It was cost effective, simple to manage, and also easy on the environment. We also created a wedding website to keep our guests informed of all the activities we had planned for the week.

Besides the ability to include items from multiple places, one of our favorite features of SimpleRegistry was the direct deposit. Through this, we were able to spend the money on whatever we really needed most. When it came down to it, we had actually fallen in love with another set of wedding flutes and were able to apply the money from other items toward them. As for the the rest of the registry items, they were things I wouldn't have been able to register for anywhere else. Instead, we were able to get what we wanted and not deal with returns.

I had a blast customizing the gift requests, adding things my guests would know the allusions of... and enjoy participating. What we decided to do was have a wedding where there was much interaction and inclusion. So, of course, having our guests sponsor a part of the wedding made them feel they were a part of it. For instance, my cousin was ecstatic to see I offered my dad's clarinet playing as a gift. She stated, "It's not every day I can bid on my godfather!" Loved that! I was impressed by the "Thank you" manager system. I used it appreciatively!

We chose SimpleRegistry because it was a great compromise between my idea (no registry!) and my fiancé (now husband)'s idea (department store registry!). We had just downsized all of our extra "stuff" to move into our first home together, so the thought of registering for more "stuff" made me nuts. SimpleRegistry did allow my fiance to register for some "stuff": a few needed items for our new home (knives, blender, etc.) and a flight of fancy or two (Kindle e-readers for the honeymoon!).
